Meet binderful contributor Merrick weaver
Merrick began community organizing with a neighborhood recycling campaign when she was in elementary school. After dabbling in babysitting, she continued her career at Ross Dress for Less in Plano, Texas. She went on to hold positions as a hostess and waitress in restaurants such as El Norte, Outback Steakhouse, and Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill on 6th. (She was never promoted to bartender.) She spent nearly two years as a medical assistant at an abortion clinic in Texas and worked in Mexico, Bolivia & Honduras before channeling her inner Leslie Knope (and meeting her husband) in local government in Colorado. She’s been a non-profit executive director, yoga teacher, strategic planning consultant, and most recently, a temp at the state health department.
She got a BA in Latin American Studies & Plan II (and a couple of STDs) from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (where she was briefly placed on academic probation). She is the creator of Kitchen Table Leadership and knows that you don’t need a position or a fancy title to be a leader. She is also one of Binderful’s cofounders.
